Located in the hills above the Broadmoor, this property originally featured an ominous poured, buttressed concrete retaining wall that was industrial and had no visual cohesion with the home. It also created a barrier between the front and back yard. We began to meet, discuss goals, and provide design solutions. Our clients expressed an interest in a gabion retaining wall to protect and beautify the new driveway as well as enhancing the entry to the home.
To begin, we were able to leave the existing wall in place and face it with a gabion system to augment it structurally and completely cover it. Rather than just dump rock into the galvanized gabions, our skilled crew painstakingly faced the visible stones to create a beautiful and organized stone face. In addition, we were able to add a flight of stairs bisecting the wall and providing access from front to back.
The front yard landscape was redesigned with a new beautiful curvilinear walk that incorporated a bridge over a dry creek bed that moved storm water safely away from the home and through the landscape with new plantings. We also installed a new stained concrete driveway.
In the end we protected the driveway with a structural wall and beautifully enhanced the entry to the home from the curb to the front door. Please feel free to contact us if we can be of help transforming the outdoor living space of your home.
