Located on the Northeast end of Colorado Springs, this location serves as Accent’s shop and office. Over the years, it has also been our testing grounds. It’s here we try new plantings, experiment with new irrigation projects, and tackle new outdoor living elements. Even with our experimenting, we’ve always developed the property with a strong since of design style.
This project represents a cottage garden style. Dense drift plantings, or groupings of the same plant, offer attractive color and texture. Throughout the beds there are a variety of perennials, ornamental grasses, shrubs, and trees. Bermed beds and attention paid to the layout of the wide variety of plant material creates a beautifully layered garden.
The outdoor kitchen was designed with entertainment in mind. The bar seating ensures that it serves as a gathering spot. The kitchen includes a natural gas grill, side burner, and warming drawer, as well as storage drawers and an access door. It is veneered with natural stone, and the countertops are a natural flagstone that we stained. The adjacent patio space offers additional dining seating. For the patio, we have concrete with a flagstone border.
The pergola was built with large lumber, and acts as a substantial focal point. It is stained cedar with shade sails woven through the rafters. The attached low voltage lighting ensures this will be a popular gathering spot day or night. It helps to define the outdoor living area and provides the feeling of being both indoors and outdoors. The inclusion of climbing vines ties it to the surrounding greenery.
