Creating Space for Play and Enjoyment in Monument

Located in a Monument, this home was in dire need of a backyard renovation. With a failing deck and retaining wall, the space was not safe or enjoyable. In meeting with our client, we learned that in addition to addressing the worn structures they wanted an outdoor retreat to relax that still provided some play areas for young children.

We began by replacing the failing wall with a new skillfully constructed dry stacked boulder wall that became the predominant feature of the view to the back of the property. We also replaced the old wood deck with a raised, stained concrete patio, incorporating a natural stone gas fire feature into the main sitting area.

The landscape incorporated flagstone walking paths through the newly planted landscape beds, a playset area, and a small sports court with basketball hoop. We structured the planting to allow for a sledding hill. We even found a way to accommodate the existing garden shed into the new, small but playful back yard. All the play areas are easily visible from the patio.

The result was an adult and kid friendly landscape, tailored to the client’s family. Please feel free to contact us if we can be of help transforming the outdoor living space of your home.
