We have seen several our clients go through the difficult decision-making process of whether to move, build, or renovate. Often the decision is to stay in the home they know and love. This project fell in to that category, for good reason. The spacious lot is in a beautiful area with room to make improvements. Not only did our clients want to renovate their home and landscape, but to provide a secondary building with garage, guest space, and office space.
Our goals were to help design and install the outdoor living space and landscape, as well as help lay out the new driveway pattern and pour the concrete. Challenges included grade changes and drainage, as well as coordinating with construction and providing design changes as needed. We were also given photos and dimensions for statuary and a fountain that were to be a part of the landscape.
The design process was fluid as the home renovation and garage structure took place. The homeowners were and continue to be wonderful to communicate and work with. We strove to make their desires for hosting, entertaining, and appreciation of their landscape a reality.
As soon as construction allowed, we activated for retaining wall construction with boulders, lot rough grading, and concrete construction. The rear patio size was increased significantly from its original configuration, and allowed space both under cover and under the stars. A fire pit was installed to provide warmth and a place for gathering.
Once landscape construction was complete, we were able to plant, mulch, rock in an attractive manner. Our plantings and bed layout provided places for the special statuary to be displayed in areas where they could be appreciated. The spacious lawn provided room for play and for the family pet.
We enjoyed getting to know and working with this family. They began use of their newly created spaces almost immediately, and we anticipate many more years of use to come. One of our joys is to see people truly appreciate and enjoy the outdoor living environment we were able to help create.
